        A 20% tax on imports from Mexico disproportionately targets people of lower incomes. Flat tax this is not.

      True, more expensive cars have parts imported from Mexico. But tax is on declared value of the part, not a percentage of the car’s net price

    Volkswagen would be the angriest about this. They just spent billions to build small cars in MX. Mid-size are built in TN.

      Domestic manufacturers won’t bring the jobs back to the US. Instead, they’ll just stop importing small cars. Cede the market to the Koreans.

        Small cars are on a big downswing as people move to crossovers and gas prices are low. Profits are already slim.

          GM has a large advantage as they have small-car production capacity in Korea (ex-Daewoo). I bet those get shipped here, and MX cars to Asia.
