    levie There’s a deferral element for those who are illiquid (<25% of assets in stocks/cash). You can, effectively, defer paying that tax until you sell the asset. But i’’s also structured like the AMT — it only taxes folks who are paying <20% of their total income in taxes.

      levie Most people make the vast majority of their income through wages — and many are taxed at a heck of a lot more than 20%. It’s absurd that I pay ~30% of my net-worth-increase in taxes each year while some folks pay 0%.
