In 2020, the iPad Air shipped with 2 high performance ‘Firestorm’ cores and 4 energy efficient ‘Icestorm’ cores. In 2022, the iPad Air is now shipping with… 4 Firestorm cores and 4 Icestorm cores.

Also in 2020, the iPad Pro was updated with an A12Z (the same chip as the previous generation but with an extra GPU core) and they were *excoriated* for it. But now, nobody is saying that about the iPad Air despite it being basically the same situation!
