  1. Watching DougDeMuro’s review of the Lincoln Blackwood has me thinking about how far ahead of its time it was. It might have been the most futuristic pickup ever. Doubt me? Read on.

      The Blackwood had a power tonneau cover 3-4 years before they became common as accessories.

        The Blackwood had storage in the bed sides 10 years before the Ram Box. And a split tailgate eighteen years before the multifunction tailgates of 2019.

          Of course, it was a luxury pickup intended to be used as a family car — presaging the entire trend of luxury pickup trims. The average pickup these days is nicer than a luxury car.

            The Blackwood may have been a failure but the concept? That replaced the pickup as we knew it in the late ‘90s.
