I think the presence of a frunk is going to be an early indicator of how good any given electric car is going to be. Not perfect, but it’ll help.

The Mercedes EQC and Audi E-tron have no frunk (despite high, bluff front fascias) and limited range because they’re based on stuffing electric components into platforms designed for ICE.

By contrast, the Jaguar i-Pace has a frunk even though it has a low sloping nose and can-forward design. It’s on a dedicated platform and actually competes with Tesla on its own turf.

The Bolt is an exception that proves the rule — its short, stubby hood barely covers the electric motors and would never have room for the frunk.
